With the holiday season coming around, UBC Campus Security has prepared some holiday tips to help keep our campus secure and keep yourself safe during the holiday closure. Help us share the information with faculty, staff, and student-staff in your newsletters, social media, and digital signage.

This communications toolkit is prepared for each department/unit to use when sharing this messaging across campus. You can find and download content here that suits your channels and audience needs. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us anytime.

Before the holidays, please take a moment to help keep our campus secure and yourself safe during the holiday closure.
BEFORE YOU LEAVE YOUR OFFICE
- Lock all doors and windows – including offices, labs, and exterior building access points.
- Secure all keys – keep building and office keys safe to prevent unauthorized access.
- Turn off lights and electronics – reduce energy use and avoid fire hazards.
- Close blinds and curtains – especially on ground-floor windows to deter theft.
- Secure or take-home valuables – laptops, tools, and personal items.
- Download the UBC Safe App – stay informed with real-time campus alerts.
- Complete the Seasonal Shutdown Checklist with your team.
IF YOU’RE WORKING LATE OR ALONE
- Let someone know your schedule and check in regularly.
- Download the UBC Safe App – the WorkAlone feature will allow individuals to regularly check-in with their emergency contact.
- Use well-lit paths and avoid walking alone – consider using Campus Security’s SafeWalk service by calling us at 604-822-2222 or using a Blue Phone.
