Reaching the wider world
Sometimes we want or need to engage with audiences outside of UBC. Defining wider audiences and determining how best to reach them can take a lot of time and strategic thinking.
Here are some examples of audiences that are external to UBC, and some notes that might be helpful when communicating to them:
Audience examples |
Things to consider |
Media | If you need to interact with media at any level — whether it’s the student newspaper or the CBC — connect with the Communications team for support and guidance. |
Suppliers | UBC buys millions of dollars in goods and services each year, and we often need to get information from the university to our supplier partners — both locally and internationally. Remember that this audience may not always be familiar with UBC or its processes. Take the time to provide all the background information that might be needed. |
University Endowment Lands | Sometimes our work might have an impact on the 4,000 people who live alongside campus in the University Endowment Lands. Remember that while they may be considered part of the “UBC community” they have governance and management functions that are completely separate from the university. |
