Internal Audiences: UBC

Who needs to know?

We speak with audiences in the wider UBC community when we need to affect how the university is operating. When you’re planning your communications, think about what kinds of groups you might need to share information with.

Reaching your target audience

We typically organize outreach into the campus community through a communications campaign. Campaigns use multiple channels to share our message with target audiences. When you are planning your communication with the university, you will likely need the help of your communications advisor to create and execute a plan that can reach these audiences.

Things to consider

Students What kind of tone will resonate with students, and help your information land? How might you reach a student audience? Do you need to reach students across all of UBC’s locations?
Academic Leadership UBC is home to many separate faculties and administrative units, and capturing the attention of university “leadership” can often be a distinct challenge. If your information needs to be heard at the top levels, think about who the best “sender” might be for the message.
Lab technicians Many of UBC’s faculties have laboratory facilities with technicians, but there is no central channel that comprehensively targets this audience. If you need to get information to lab technicians at UBC, you may need to target a different audience to cascade that information forward.

Resources

Reaching your audience is accelerated by using the right channels to get your message to the right people.
