Unifying system: Pathways and sparks
The VPFO’s strong, interconnected relationships across UBC are represented through a unifying system of pathways that symbolize our people and divisions—both tangible and intangible. These pathways are depicted as nine linear, modular forms that interlock to create a cohesive graphic pattern. Based on a continuous grid, this visual language reinforces the VPFO’s unified and cohesive system.
Sparks represent key touchpoints that occur at intersections in the pathways, symbolizing moments of connection within the VPFO. They vary in size and density, allowing for flexibility in framing subjects when paired with photography.
When combined with UBC’s brand colours, the visual language becomes dynamic and engaging. The modular nature of both the linear forms and spark placements allows for adaptable patterns that highlight connection. Together, these elements create a cohesive graphic system that reflects the VPFO’s interconnected structure.

The pathways can be placed over areas of clear space, or areas with little detail to provide depth, help frame the subject, and offer a block of background for text.
